BRIEF
7 storey extension to the existing college building, including extensive curtain walling, rainscreen cladding and brickwork. The internal works comprised new classrooms, wc facilities and circulation areas.
SOCIAL VALUE
The new classroom and teaching space further enhances the capacity of one of the best sixth form colleges in the country. During its construction, an element of site labour was drawn from the local labour pool.
CHALLENGE: ABNORMALS AFFECTING SITE VIABILITY
Proximity to the River Roch required careful environmental safeguarding to prevent possible contamination of the river.
ACTION
Specialist piling solution to prevent damage to aquifer.
Flood prevention measures implemented to protect site during construction.
Re-use of existing materials in external works.
Noise mitigation to prevent disturbance to fully operational teaching facility.
OUTCOME
Entire works were carried out without any intrusion or disruption to the pupils and all environmental constraints were observed.
